Myra and Jarrett are working to improve the life of a little girl named Audrina, who has Epidermolysis Bullosa. This is a rare disease that causes her to get painful blisters all over her body, especially in places that get moisture. This causes Audrina to have many struggles, like walking, grasping things with her hands and gaining strength in her muscle tone. She is lacking in strength due to lack of use. The lack of use is due to the pain she experiences when she moves because of the blisters. Myra and Jarrett have been studying EB and learning as much as they can about the disease. They are working with Audrina’s dad, Nick, to determine what she struggles with daily. Audrina has also been to school to visit. Myra and Jarrett have researched and brainstormed some ideas to improve her issues. They have designed different inserts for her shoes. Mr. Nick gave them pictures of the bottom of Audrina's feet to determine where the blisters most commonly occur. The inserts are different in size and are made to apply pressure on the areas of her feet that are blister free. They 3D printed numerous prototypes using flexible filament and are still trying to come up with the most comfortable design with input from Nurse Jamie. Once they have a prototype they are satisfied with, they will add adhesive to one side. The adhesive will be placed on the shoes surface under the clear spots of her foot. The next step is to get the first successful prototype with adhesive printed and to let Audrina try it out. They will take feedback from her dad to see where to go next.
