Harmony Grove Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Miller County. Zack Wardlaw, Hayden Moya, and Kaine Carmack are cleaning up the cemetery, during the cleaning of the cemetery they have discovered unmarked graves and even graves dated back to the Civil War. For the unmarked graves, they made wooden crosses and put bible verses on them to mark the graves. They purchased cleaning supplies and will start cleaning the existing headstones in Spring 2025. The Harmony Heroes, as they are called, have recently watched all tutorials to begin the mapping process with ArcGis. They are also planning to take the drone out to the cemetery in order to give the families an aerial view of the property. There is an existing functional church on the property as well.
The problem Harmony Heroes is solving is helping families locate deceased family members and cleaning up the cemetery, as well as brining attention to the historic area of our county. They are using multiple resources to help with this project, including family members cutting the wood for crosses and cleaning supplies for grave markers. The sophistication of this project comes from updating the cemetery as well as mapping the gravesites out for local people to find family members or do research.
Zack, Hayden, and Kaine are not only growing as EAST students, but they are growing as adults and community members. They take the time to go to the cite every other week to get updates, and learning the software to map in class.
The client and community partner is not only Harmony Grove Cemetery, but Harmony Grove Church and their members, also local families.
The Harmony Heroes are working diligently on the project daily as a team and also making contacts with church members and families who's loved ones are buried there.
