Harrisburg School District needed a way for teachers to easily identify themselves during events, meetings, reunification and within the school community. Without professional ID cards, teachers lacked a consistent and professional way to display their credentials. This EAST project was created to solve this by designing and producing teacher identification cards that include each teacher’s name, picture, job title, and the safety protocol for our school. HHS EAST students utilized graphic design software (such as Canva and Adobe Indesign) and a card printer (MagiCard 300) to create high-quality, personalized IDs. This project streamlines teacher identification, improves school security, and enhances professionalism in the educational environment.

HHS EAST students had to design cards that were both visually appealing and functional. Determining how to best layout the images and text required problem-solving and attention to detail. Technology such as photo editing software, card design/layout, and a card printing system to create high-quality, durable identification cards. The project addresses a real-world need by providing an actual resource that the teachers can use daily for identification purposes. This project required collaboration with school staff, particularly administration, to gather necessary details for the IDs.

This project stands out because it directly impacts the teachers and the school community by solving a practical issue with a creative and technological approach. Additionally, it was tailored specifically to our school, with unique designs that reflect the institution’s branding, making the IDs not just functional, but also a part of the school’s identity.

The school counselor contacted us to create these ID badges for safety reasons. In the case of an emergency event, police officers or other emergency response teams can quickly identify teachers with their badges to show that they work within the school district.

The project has been in place since the end of the 2024 school year and completed August 2024 (this will be an ongoing project as new employees are hired). It took several weeks to gather the necessary information, design the cards, and finalize the printing process.
