Nettleton EAST believes very strongly in keeping the tradition of honoring our veterans. We hosted “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service” program and luncheon to honor the local veterans. Each year students brainstorm ideas and expectations for the program, and each part of it is planned intentionally. Students selected the songs, performances, veteran and community guest speakers, along with other groups that were invited to participate. Students used Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premier Pro to design invitations, promotional videos, and yard signs that were gifted to the veterans. The interactions between students and the veterans from the program allows our students to learn the history, sacrifices, and experiences of the veterans.
Nettleton contacted community partners and were overwhelmed with the response they received. A former EAST student, Tyler Fry who is the marketing manager for the American Made General Store reached out to our facilitator to participate and make donations for our veterans. We also partnered with Texas Roadhouse who provided the luncheon for over 500 people. The City of Jonesboro, Region 8 News, Jonesboro Sun, Jonesboro Right Now and over 10 radio spots were given to our students to promote our event. Farmers and Merchants Bank, First Community Bank and Arvest all provided monetary donations.
