School Hydroponic Tower was a project led by Washington Junior High School students Blair Kirby and Annalise Furiman. They worked to create a budget friendly tower for gardening that was able to grow plants without the use of soil and had an automated timer system for watering. This tower would be kept in one of the schools 7th grade science classrooms and used as a hands on interactive since gardening and they nutrients plants need to grow is a part of their curriculum. They started by researching what Hydroponic farming is and laying out a plan for what they would build, the supplies they will need, and the types of plants that work best for Hydroponic gardening. They then used the non-profit grant website Donors Choose to apply for a grant that paid for all of the needed supplies. They also communicated with another community partner which was their school's garden club they discussed with this group to learn more about farming and to decide where the tower should be kept. They then learned how to use multiple hardware tools including the electric saw, heat gun, and circular saw to construct the tower. Lastly they built the tower and set it up to be used int he classroom.
