Students encourage classmates and families to choose a healthy life style by avoiding drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Nettleton Junior High EAST recently encouraged classmates and families throughout our school district to choose a healthy lifestyle by avoiding drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. EAST students participated in a “Clear the Air” poster contest with a drug-free message.

Students researched facts about the effects of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco abuse and potential negative consequences. Using that information, they designed posters using Photoshop or other photo editing software and printed the posters on the plotter. Four students were selected as winners by a tobacco grant committee formed by the coordinator. The overall junior high school winner was Alicia, and the overall high school winner was the team of Tiffany and Abby. Haven’s poster won best graphic design.

EAST students began their campaign to promote a drug-free lifestyle by setting up a booth displaying the winning posters and other selected posters during parent-teacher conference at the junior high school. The booth was then moved to the Nettleton Middle School to be displayed during the book fair. The students will continue to circulate the booth throughout the district to promote their message.
