EAST Senior Wins App Challenge

Tyler Gay, a senior in the EAST program at Bentonville High School, was part of a team of three students who won the Congressional App Challenge in Arkansas’ 3rd Congressional District. The contest was hosted by U.S. Rep. Steve Womack, who presented medals to Tyler and his teammates during a ceremony Feb. 19.

West-Scantlebury to be EAST Conference 2016 Keynote

Sherece Y. West-Scantlebury, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, has accepted an invitation to be the keynote speaker for EAST Conference 2016. West-Scantlebury will deliver the keynote address during the Gala event on the second night of Conference, March 16.
EAST students present on STEM conference panel

Students from the EAST program at Greenbrier High School joined a panel discussing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education at a conference presented by the Arkansas STEM Coalition and the University of Central Arkansas on Feb. 25, intended to bring schools, business and other community members together to talk STEM partnerships.

Five finalists have been selected to compete for the 2016 Timothy R. Stephenson Founder’s Award, which will be presented by the EAST Initiative during its annual conference at 7 p.m. March 16 in Hot Springs.

In January 2015, the EAST Initiative and the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, thanks to support from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and AT&T, launched a unique learning space hosted by the Hub. That space, called the STEAM lab, is now a new center of learning for a broad community of visitors.
