Mt. Vernon-Enola awarded Beyond the Bell Grant

EAST at Mount Vernon-Enola has been awarded an EAST Beyond the Bell Grant made possible by the Arkansas Department of Education and the EAST Initiative. EAST students will offer a tech camp for 3rd graders through adult community members. Campers will work in teams using innovative technology to solve problems in their local community.

The EAST Initiative was named the top ed-tech initiative in Arkansas by eSchool news for technology advocacy and work being done around the nation. The initiatives listed for each state are recognized as promising ed-tech models that serve to demonstrate just how powerful ed-tech is for students and communities.

Girls and Coding: EAST at Sonora Elementary

EAST students at Sonora Elementary experiment with a microcontroller to develop computer science skills. Students Izzy and Kimbo had fun while developing code for an SOS message. The girls completed their project through their local EAST program and plan to continue building their coding skills.
New EAST Program at Ashdown

Ashdown Junior High School has been requesting inclusion in the national EAST Initiative for several years, and it has finally happened. James Jones, principal of AJHS, received word at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Work began immediately to launch the AJHS EAST program for seventh and eighth graders for 2013-2014.
