EAST Announces 2007-2008 Board of Directors

The EAST Initiative, a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit that oversees the nationally recognized EAST Program elected its 2007-2008 Board of Directors at its annual board meeting on August 7.

Students from EAST programs in Hawaii and Arkansas presented the GIS aspects of their service projects to an audience of 13,000 at the 2007 ESRI International User Conference in June.

The Eureka Springs High School EAST Lab, as part of their proposed plan to establish an Inventors Club for Carroll County youth interested in math and science careers, received a $1,000 grant from the Carroll County Community Foundation, Youth Advisory Council.
Eureka Springs EAST receives MIT and Rotary Club Grants for Inventors Club

The Eureka Springs High School EAST Lab, as part of their proposed plan to establish an Inventors Club for Carroll County youth interested in math and science careers, received a $2,000 FollowOn grant from the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam Program and a corresponding matching grant of $2,000 from the Eureka Springs Rotary Club.

The Eureka Springs High School EAST Lab students hosted University of Arkansas Center of Advanced Spatial Technologies staff members Angie Payne and Adam Barnes as part of the EAST Lab 's fantastic First Place win at the CAST - 3D Laser Scanning Proposal Competition.

Hot Springs was recently filled with the sights and sounds of fresh, young minds hard at work.
Nearly 2,000 students and educators from around the state and country convened at the convention center in Hot Springs from Feb. 27 to March 1 for the Environmental And Spatial Technology (EAST) Partnership Conference to share their programs.
Lamar EAST Lab Recieves Wal-Mart Grant

Lamar EAST lab recently received a $500 "Community" grant from Clarksville Wal-Mart Super Center to purchase digital equipment for filming and taking pictures. Facilitator Chris Arnold wrote the grant and expressed how the funds would utilize our local community and how they work with the community.

Paris High School EAST Lab was one of the few organizations that was selected to receive a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart Distribution Center. DHS EAST students received a $500 mini grant award from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation for their project entitled Global Warming: We Are in Charge! The Dardanelle students developed the idea from a lesson in their environmental science class taught by Jeff Woods, high school science teacher.
